TAIJIQUAN
Taijiquan, translating as Supreme Ultimate Fist, is an ancient Chinese martial art, meditation system and health practice.
Whether you are interested in the martial aspect or not, whether you are a sports person or not, young or old, Taiji can be a great way of exercising, gentle and yet efficient: as much calorie burning as running!
Numerous scientific researches have recently brought into light the therapeutic effects of Taiji, among which are stress-release, improved balance and co-ordination, better joint flexibility, increased lung capacity as well as higher immune response.
A Taiji session usually starts with a warm up including yoga and qigong (literally: “life energy cultivation”) exercises.
Then follows the playing of a Taiji form: a sequence of mostly slow and graceful movements finely interweaving with one another. At the rhythm of a soft traditional Chinese music, we perform this precise and subtle flow with full awareness and consistent breathing.
This practice brings the mind to gradually slow down and relax, letting us discover a state of profound peace where we feel centered, sure of our ability to balance in any given situation.
Thus, just like Yoga, Taiji extends beyond our weekly classes: Taiji is a way of healthy, serene life.
